Private Group Tours and Workshops

Students working with materials during a class visit.

The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) welcomes K-12, homeschool, college, lifelong learning, and community groups to the library for in-person or virtual tours and workshops. Guided tours are designed to give an overview of the Society’s collections and a look at both public and behind-the-scenes spaces in Antiquarian Hall. Workshops offer a deeper experience with the collections and can be tailored to meet your group’s interests.

To schedule a group tour or workshop, read through the options below and then complete the appropriate request form. After you have submitted the form, the Programs Coordinator will contact you to confirm and coordinate your visit.

Please schedule your visit at least one month in advance. We try to honor every group visit request, but due to time and space constraints, we are not able to accommodate every request.

Please email us at programs [at] mwa.org, or call 508-471-2127 if your group has more than 30 attendees.

Guided Library Tours

In-person tours begin in our introductory gallery and may include a view of the Society's eighteenth century printing press, newly constructed conservation and learning lab spaces, the library stacks, and the reading room. Full length tours are approximately 60 minutes, but instructors may request a customized or truncated version based on class or group needs.

  • A guided tour costs $100 for a group of up to 15 attendees
  • A guided tour costs $150 for a group of 16-30 attendees

Customized Workshops

Customized workshops are designed for in-person, virtual, or hybrid visits. Group instructors can select up to 10 items from the AAS General Catalog to have on display. Instructors are also expected to lead the workshop and discuss the material with students or members of the group. During in-person workshops, AAS staff will be responsible for managing the display and care of the collection items. Virtual and hybrid workshops will be held through Zoom Meeting and AAS staff will provide real-time access to material by using a high-definition document camera. Duration of customized workshops depend on group availability, but are recommended to be no longer than 90 minutes.

  • A customized workshop costs $200

Fees collected for group tours and workshops directly support the American Antiquarian Society mission. Please email programs [at] mwa.org (programs[at]mwa[dot]org) if the fee presents a financial hardship for your organization.
