The American Antiquarian Society Privacy Policy

This policy explains what types of information is collected by the American Antiquarian Society (AAS) and how this information is used.

Generally, we use your personal information to provide you with personalized service; to send e-mail alerts to you; to answer your requests; etc.  You may choose to opt out of unsolicited emails at any time.

Like most website operators, AAS collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request.  AAS’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how visitors use our websites.  From time to time, AAS may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of our website.

www.americanantiquarian.org currently uses “cookie” messages.  Typically, a “cookie” is placed in your computer and is read when you come back to a website. You can reject cookies or cancel them by instructing your web browser accordingly.

Individuals who sign up to receive AAS e-communications voluntarily provide us with their contact information such as name and e-mail address.  We may use this information for specific, limited purposes.  You may always “opt out,” either now or at any time in the future, if you do not wish to receive our messages.

Individuals who make a donation or register for a program voluntarily provide us with their contact information such as name, email address, phone, and postal address.  We may use this information to send appeals and program information.  You may always “opt out,” either now or at any time in the future, if you do not wish to receive our messages.

Individuals who make on-site use of the AAS library are required to register and show identification, a copy of which is securely retained.  Registration information collected may include the date, name, postal address, email, phone, a photo, and the purpose of the visit.  This information is collected as a security measure and also for statistical metrics to track visitor traffic; it is for internal use only, and we do not sell or rent it to other organizations.

Email Privacy

AAS does not sell or rent email addresses to anyone outside the organization.  Occasionally we share email addresses with other collaborating institutions for a specific event or purpose.
