An explanation of the Catholic religion had been published the year before in 1841, Vahi hoike Katolika, and the missionaries reported more such books were wanted so in 1842 this volume consisting of a catechism and prayers was published to encourage the Catholic faith in the Hawaiian islands. The AAS copy is special because it is unopened, that is, the printed sheets were folded to make a booklet and then stab sewn, but the conjoined parts were never cut so not all the pages can be easily read. Its presswork is uneven at best, as was the previous
English translation of title from Forbes: A Catechism and some prayers to be read by Catholics of these islands.
