Several versions of the “Granny Wales” tune appeared period sources. Henry Beck included this decorative version in his manuscript collection of tunes for the German flute “Henry Beck’s Flute Book” [copybook containing instructions for German flute and 314 airs, dance melodies, and marches. Pennsylvania:] 1786, 52. Courtesy Library of Congress, Music Division. Another version appears in a manuscript now at the University of Birmingham (“Marches and Military music belonging to Thos. Molyneaux,” 2:41) with the title “Eppie McNabb or Granyouwail.”
