The second of three “catalog” texts (see also Brilliant Naval Victory and Most Brilliant Naval Victory on Lake Erie), “Eighth Naval Victory” appears to be a literary poem, not a song. The verses vary between eight, six, and four lines. The author continues the pun on the Boxer used in Sixth Naval Victory, but concentrates on “sailors’ rights” throughout the text. The last verse may be a Democratic-Republican reference to Massachusetts’ refusal to grant awards or even gravesites to naval heroes.
