Another Glorious Victory features a text in the Decatur’s Victory form, with the same chorus throughout. It is a fairly sophisticated composition, beginning with a prose discussion between Neptune and Columbia that is interrupted by the appearance over the horizon of the two ships in the midst of their battle near the coast of Surinam. Neptune smiles and blesses “the brows of the brave.” The song reports on the fight and ends with Neptune’s toast to the victor, Saratoga, “as famous as old Saratoga’s plains be.”

This battle in September 1813 between the American privateer Saratoga (Captain Charles W. Wooster) and the British packet Morgiana (Captain James Cunningham) was hotly contested. Morgiana did not surrender until she had several casualties, among them her commander, who was badly wounded. The headnotes on the broadside are similar to a report in the Newport Mercury of October 23, 1813, except that Cunningham had by then died of his wounds and was referred to as the “late Capt. Cunningham.”
