The New tid re i: or The birth of Paddy O'Rafferty, Jun

There is no reason to assume that this parody of “Tid re I” is also by Charles Dibdin but its existence demonstrates the popularity of the form. The third verse of the song mentions the popular dance tune “Moll in the Wad” and a dance figure called “Hip se saw” which we believe is a slang term for a poussette. The broadside version appeared in the (Elizabethtown) New Jersey Journal on July 12, 1808. A longer version appeared in Virginia Nightingale (6-11) and in Mocking-bird (118). The text appeared in three songsters between 1807 and 1814 (R. Keller, Early American Songsters).
