In this virtual program, Craig Fehrman shares behind-the-scenes details and images from his new book, This Vast Enterprise: A New History of Lewis & Clark. These include a lost interview with Wolf Calf, a Piikani man who met Lewis in 1806; pages from Clark's forgotten college notebook; and two newspapers ads from AAS’s collection. One ad inspired an expedition sergeant to enlist, and the other reveals much about the life of York, a Black man that Clark enslaved. Fehrman will also be joined in conversation by AAS President Scott Casper.
