Adam Jortner will discuss the Jews of the American Revolution: how the patriots embraced Jewish Americans and forged new religious freedoms in the Revolutionary War.
Adam Jortner is a professor of American History at Auburn University. He has published four books on the history of American religion, miracles, witchcraft, and the American Revolution. His work has received multiple national awards from historical associations. From 2021-2025, he wrote regular columns for Current on history, religion, and current events. He is also the author and performer of four Audible Original series on the history of religion, witchcraft, and monsters. His performance in “The Hidden History of the Boston Tea Party” was a top-ten nonfiction download on Audible in January 2024. He also served on the script team for the PBS show Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?
In 2026, Adam will present a streaming video series for the America’s 250th anniversary. Entitled 1776: Years that Mattered, it will debut this spring and cover the history of the world in 1776.
