A Promised Land: Jewish Patriots, the American Revolution, and the Birth of Religious Freedom

Adam Jortner is professor of American History at Auburn University. He has published four books on the history of American religion, miracles, witchcraft, and the American Revolution. From 2021-2025, he wrote regular columns for Current on history, religion, and current events. He is also the author and performer of four Audible Original series on the history of religion, witchcraft, and monsters. His performance in “The Hidden History of the Boston Tea Party” was a top-ten nonfiction download on Audible in January 2024. He also served on the script team for the PBS show "Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?" In 2026, Jortner will present a streaming video series for America’s 250th anniversary, "1776: Years that Mattered." He was an AAS-American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Fellow in 2014-15.
