Harvesting, near San Jose

151121harvesting.jpg

Description

View of men seen in a field, loading hay onto an ox drawn cart in northern California. In the foreground, a man sits in the grass on a blanket. In the distance, mountains are seen. This print was part of a set of fourteen scenes of California painted on site by landscape artist John Ross Key, after being commissioned by Prang. Each of these small (14 x 7 in) scenes sold for $3 apiece. Similar to the Champney New England scenes, these chromos were a popular purchase for print buyers.
