Wilson H. Kimnach

Wilson Kimnach (elected October 1998) died October 24, 2021. Presidential Professor in the Humanities, emeritus, at the University of Bridgeport, Kimnach was among the foremost authorities on the sermons of Jonathan Edwards. After receiving a B.A. from Brown University, he received an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Kimnach served as general editor of sermons for The Works of Jonathan Edwards, published by Yale University Press, and edited two volumes of the sermons and discourses in that series (issued in 1992 and 2006). With Kenneth P. Minkema and Douglas A. Sweeney, he edited The Sermons of Jonathan Edwards: A Reader (1999); with Minkema and Caleb J. D. Maskell, he edited Jonathan Edwards’s “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”: A Casebook (2010). In 2012 Kimnach and Minkema published “The Material and Social Practices of Intellectual Work: Jonathan Edwards’s Study” in the William and Mary Quarterly, bringing insights from the study of objects to the understanding of Edwards’s ideas.
