Roger Eliot Stoddard (elected October 1965) died on January 21, 2025. Stoddard began collecting books early in life and, while still an undergraduate, cofounded the antiquarian book firm, Sibylline Books. He devoted his career to academic libraries, spending nearly four decades at the Houghton Library at Harvard University and retiring in 2004 as senior curator of rare books and senior lecturer in English. During his tenure, the Houghton Library acquired some 65,000 books. He served on the AAS Council from 1989 to 1993.
