Louis Leonard Tucker

Louis Leonard Tucker (elected April 1979) died on March 18, 2024. The son of Russian immigrants, Tucker made his career in the realm of public history. After serving as executive director of the Cincinnati Historical Society, assistant commissioner of education and state historian of New York, and New York bicentennial commissioner, he became director of the Massachusetts Historical Society in 1977. He remained in that role for twenty years. In addition, Tucker wrote nine books and was the author of more than thirty journal articles and many book reviews.
