Kenneth Alan Lockridge

Kenneth A. Lockridge (elected October 2002), professor emeritus of history at the University of Montana, died on August 26, 2024. A prolific scholar during his forty-five-year career, Lockridge produced numerous books and articles celebrated for their penetrating assessments of early American life. His first book, A New England Town: The First Hundred Years (1970), became a seminal text of the “new social history,” the transformative move among historians to study the everyday lives of ordinary people. After retiring in 2009, he and his wife moved to Sweden to be closer to their son and family.
