Gillian Elise Avery

Gillian Avery died on January 31, 2016. She was a British children’s novelist and historian of American and British childhood education and children’s literature. Her 1971 novel, A Likely Lad, won the 1972 Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, and she was awarded a fellowship at AAS in 1985.
