1934-2024
Worcester entrepreneur, businessman, and civic leader Francis R. Carroll (elected October 2010) died on October 31, 2024. He started as a shoeshine boy at age eleven and eventually founded the Small Business Service Bureau Inc., Sterling Bridge Insurance Agency, and FRC Realty. He served on the US Small Business Administration National Advisory Council and the US-China Trade Caucus on Small Business. He led the work to fund and sustain the St. Francis Xavier Center’s Food for the Poor at St. John’s Church and was a champion of military veterans and active military personnel. His many civic awards included the Isaiah Thomas Award in 2003.
