1944-2025
Edward Countryman (elected April 2005), historian of the American Revolutionary period, died on March 24, 2025. He studied the past from the bottom up, looking at ordinary people—workers, farmers, Native Americans, African Americans, and women—as participants and drivers of social change. Countryman spent the longest part of his career (1991–2022) as Distinguished Professor of History at Southern Methodist University
