Danielle Legros Georges

Poet, writer, translator, and editor Danielle Legros Georges (elected October 2024) died on February 11, 2025. Born in Haiti, Georges was Boston’s second poet laureate (2015‒19) and professor emerita of creative writing at Lesley University. She also taught for more than a decade in the Joiner Institute for the Study of War and Social Consequences Writer’s Workshop at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. She was the author of three volumes of poetry, including The Dear Remote Nearness of You (2016), winner of the New England Poetry Club’s Sheila Margaret Motton Book Prize, and editor of two others, including Wheatley at 250 (2023).
