A Boston company produced this commemorative handkerchief mid-way through the construction of the Bunker Hill Monument. The monument, which took more than seventeen years to complete, honored Revolutionary War soldiers who died during the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. The handkerchief includes a view of the finished obelisk, the text of General Joseph Warren's address to American soldiers before the battle, and lines read during the 1825 laying of the cornerstone, which the orator Daniel Webster and the Marquis de Lafayette attended. A former owner embroidered her initials, "A.B. 11," on the handkerchief.
