Potowmac Guardian, and Berkeley Advertiser

Acquired by the Society in 2024, The Patowmac Guardian, and Berkeley Advertiser first appeared on November 15, 1790, in Shepherdstown. At that time, Shepherdstown was part of what was Virginia, but still it was the first paper from that region. The publisher, Nathaniel Willis, learned his trade first in Boston, then Winchester, Virginia. After about a year, Willis moved his press to Martinsburg. Few examples of printing in Shepherdstown from the early 1790s survive.
