Daniel Fowle moved from Massachusetts to New Hampshire in 1756 after the Massachusetts Assembly accused him of printing a pamphlet that was not to their liking. He published The New-Hampshire Gazette in Portsmouth, with the first issue dated October 7, 1756. The longest surviving paper in North America, the Gazette is still in print today.
