Citizenship in the New Republic teacher workshop

Friday, November 15, 2019 - 9:00am to Saturday, November 16, 2019 - 3:45pm

Mount Vernon is partnering with the American Antiquarian Society to offer a full-day teacher professional development workshop exploring citizenship in the new republic through the lens of George Washington's 1789 tour of New England. Teachers will spend the day taking an in-depth look at Washington's 1789 visit to Boston by combining content and primary sources with scholar T.H. Breen and working with original documents from the collection of the American Antiquarian Society with experts from both Mount Vernon and the American Antiquarian Society. The day will conclude with a session on bringing civics into the classroom and an optional tour of the Society's Library.

The workshop is open to all K-12 teachers; however, special attention will be paid to the new Massachusetts History and Social Science Framework for 8th grade United States and Massachusetts Government and Civic Life. Coffee and lunch will be provided for all registered participants.

The Mount Vernon website has more information and online registration.
