Research for historical novel titled "Band of Gideon" about three black female members of Gideon's Band, a group of Northern idealist, seminary students, school teachers, and abolitionists who traveled south to help the slaves on the South Carolina Sea Island.

About the Author

Amina Gautier is the author of three award-winning short story collections: The Loss of All Lost Things, Now We Will Be Happy, and At-Risk, as well as a large number of separately published short stories. For her body of work Gautier received the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story in 2018, becoming the first African American woman to win the prestigious award.
