Five different amusing and moralistic rhymes are bound together in this modest eight-page book issued not long after the end of the Civil War. On the cover, a mother watches her young child playing at soldiering. The pages don’t include jokes as we understand them today – the rhymes are more like multi-part limericks.  For example: “Wicked Willie Wimble / Stole his Granny’s thimble / And she could not catch him / Because she was not nimble.”
