This early comic book sports three rows of vividly hand-colored pictures with captions, chronicling the adventures of Tom Plump who heads west to dig for gold during the California Gold Rush in 1849.  After losing a great deal of weight pursuing his fortune, he returns East only to fatten up as a result of “good living.”
