Founded in 1825, the Connecticut Historical Society houses a museum, library, and the Edgar F. Waterman Research Center. The collections include more than four million manuscripts, graphics, books, artifacts, and other historical materials.
|11:15 a.m.||Bus Tour
Walter Woodward, Connecticut State Historian and AAS member, will provide commentary on the history of Hartford and Connecticut as we drive into downtown Hartford.
|11:40 a.m.||Tour the Old State House, 800 Main Street, Hartford, CT
Built in 1796 and reputedly designed by Charles Bulfinch as his first public building, this structure housed the three branches of state government as well as the Amistad Slave Trials and the Hartford Convention of 1814.
|1:00-2:30 p.m.||Lunch for members and guests in the Hartford Courant Room, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, 600 Main Street, Hartford, CT
Opened in 1844, the Wadsworth Atheneum is the oldest continually operating public art museum in the United States. This recently renovated museum is known for its collection of European art, French and American Impressionists, Hudson River School landscapes, and early American furniture and decorative arts.
