Programs
In addition to maintaining its research library, the American Antiquarian Society is also engaged in a number of programs that serve a wide audience.
Free public tours are given every Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Academic Programs
The American Antiquarian Society Seminars are sponsored in association with the history departments of Brown University, Clark University and the University of Connecticut.
Each year the Society sponsors the American Studies Seminar for a select group of undergraduates from the five four-year colleges and universities in Worcester: Assumption College, Clark University, the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Worcester State College.
Center for Historic American Visual Culture (CHAVIC)
Established in 2005, The Center for Historic American Visual Culture (CHAVIC) at the American Antiquarian Society (AAS) seeks to provide opportunities for educators to learn about American visual culture and resources, promote the awareness of AAS collections, and stimulate research and intellectual inquiry into American visual materials.
History of the Book
AAS established the Program in the History of the Book in American Culture in 1983 in order to focus its resources on promoting an emerging field of interdisciplinary inquiry.
A thrice-yearly newsletter, The Book, serves as the chief means by which the Program communicates with its various constituencies and publishes essay reviews and substantive pieces on research collections and on research in progress.
Public Programs
Public programs include a wide variety of events, including lectures, book discussions, theatrical and musical presentations, and film showings.
K-12 Programs
The History Show, audio presentation combining history and entertainment.The Teaching American History Program aims to increase teachers' content knowledge, yielding increased critical thinking, problem solving, analysis and interpretation practices with their students.
