Plate LXIV. Quadrangular vase (Fang P’ing) of the Ch’ien-lung period, 1736-1795.

Description

Plate LXIV from Prang's master work Oriental Ceramic Art, published in 1897. After testing lithographers throughout Europe to reproduce his ceramics collection, William T. Walters gave L. Prang & Co. the commission after seeing the quality of his work.
This vase is "one of a pair of quadrangular vases, with openwork railings projecting from the corners, which are richly decorated in colors with gilding. The large panels are painted with landscape pictures of the four seasons, bordered by scrolls, penciled in gold on a soft coral red, by bands of gold-brocaded blue or embroidered yellow."
