You’re not going to put that needle in my ear, right?

“The Ear-ring” from Forget me not. New York: Published by Leavitt & Allen, 379 Broadway. [ca. 1856]

Catalog Record | Enlarged Image | Adopt a Gift Book Home

This charming scene from Forget me not shows a woman about to pierce the ears of a young girl. She holds tightly to her mother’s hand and watches as the woman carefully brings a needle to her ear. As if knowing what is about to happen, the small dog in the corner scratches his own ear, hoping that he’s not next!
