Not just for Girls!

Dedication page of The Annualette. A Christmas and New Year’s Gift, edited by a Lady. Boston: T.H. Carter, 1846.

Catalog Record | Enlarged Image | Adopt a Gift Book Home

Although most annuals were designed with female consumers in mind, many were given to boys and young men as well.  This copy of the Annualette is inscribed by a grandmother to her grandson, and was given on New Year’s day. Several of the tales and poems in this edition were written with younger children in mind and feature topics such as bubble blowing, getting lost and going to the farmer’s market.
