Friends Don’t let Friends Read Bad Poetry

Dedication inscription in The Amulet. A Christmas and New Years’s Present, for 1846. Boston: Otis, Broaders & Co., 1846.

Catalog Record | Enlarged Images | Adopt a Gift Book Home

Annuals were popular holiday gifts in the 1840s, and were often inscribed to the recipient from the donor.  This copy of the Amulet was given to one friend by another and is inscribed for New Year with a four line poem celebrating that relationship.  The volume contains many illustrations, poems, and stories that would have appealed to a wide audience.

Adopted in honor of Michael Pyron by Black Swan Books Richmond, Virginia
