WHEEEEEEEEEE!!

“The Sled” from The Literary Souvenir, Philadelphia: Carey and Hart, 1844.

Catalog Record | Enlarged Image | Adopt a Gift Book Home

This lively winter scene is taken from The Literary Souvenir of 1844. A young boy has left thoughts of the school day behind (and his books in the snow) as he zooms down a hill on a wooden sled holding onto a rope while throwing his free hand into the air. This was a popular scene in gift books as it was used in at least three other gift books in the 1840s and 1850s.

Adopted by Chester, Camilla, Damien, Allison, and Madeline Gryski in honour of future readers
