The publications of American and foreign learned societies, past and present, form a collection closely related to the Institutions Collection. The societies included in the collection range from the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia to the Zamorano Club of Los Angeles. The collection includes approximately 6,700 volumes (in bound or pamphlet form) of transactions, proceedings, annual reports, and miscellaneous publications. The Learned Societies collection is also an archive for all of the Society's own publications; copies of the Transactions, the Proceedings, and all books and pamphlets published by AAS are shelved here.
The United States learned societies (for which there is a checklist by name of the 195 organizations represented in the collection) are arranged alphabetically by name of institution. Foreign learned societies, to which there is at present no bibliographical access, are grouped by country and arranged alphabetically by name within each group. Some titles are cataloged in the Society's General Catalog. Materials published before 1801 are included in the online catalog.
