The Creative Spirit: 19th Century Technology and the Transformation of America

The period from 1830 to 1900 saw a dramatic increase in creative technological advances. The railroad, telegraph, sewing machine and various technologies all radically changed the lives of people and transformed the political, economic, and social development of the American nation. This hands-on workshop will immerse participants in primary-source images and text documents that chart this 19th-Century boom, with focus on deeper, integrated learning in the arts, humanities, and sciences.

Teams of teachers across disciplines and grade levels are encouraged to attend together.

Reduced registration fees for institutions/individuals that are members of either SMARTS Collaborative (https://www.smartscollab.org/) or Arts|Learning (http://www.artslearning.org/member-2/) with additional fee reductions for teams of three or more from the same school.

Enrollment for this special day is limited. Registration opens July 17, 2017
