Declaring Independence Then and Now

Tuesday, June 27, 2017 - 7:00pm

Declaring IndependenceDeclaring Independence – Then & Now is a forty-minute public performance piece in which a narrator and six costumed re-enactors bring to life our nation’s “national scripture.”

This program will be narrated by William Fowler, Distinguished Professor of History at Northeastern University. Costume readers include: Joe Brown, Linda Greene, Brendan Hart, Jim Hollister and Allan Van Wert.

A joint program of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area and the American Antiquarian Society, Declaring Independence – Then & Now uses primary source material researched by citizen historians through the Patriots’ Paths project that reveals how individuals within their communities debated and responded to the Declaration of Independence. Their responses are woven into a script built around the Declaration itself and performed in spaces throughout the heritage area as a forum for public discussion and engagement.
