Cross Family Art Archive

In addition to the rich, primary material contained within the Cross Family Collection, the AAS also maintains the Cross Family Art Archive which includes books on plants, animals and botany, specimens of artistic work and periodicals, illustrated catalogs, music, guidebooks, history texts, plays and poetry, handbooks, almanacs, bound chromolithographs, children’s literature and many other materials scattered across the library’s curatorial collections. Many of the items were owned, used and annotated by Emma Augusta, Henry Clay and Joel Foster Cross.

The Cross Family Art Archive not only demonstrates prospective inspiration and sources of the creative process, but also the potential cyclical phase art has with print culture. The collection also reflects a representative library of a talented and connected family living in late nineteenth century New England.

This archive consists of approximately 60 items donated by Diana Korzenik in 1991. To view the bibliographic records for the items, please click here. You may also search for items in the AAS online catalog using the heading "Cross Family Art Archives".
