This humorous scene comes from The Gem of 1839. An old man whose right leg is in a wooden brace, is not able to fish outdoors, so he has brought the fishing to his living room. He sits in a chair by the fireplace, holding tight to his fishing pole with the line in a tub filled with water. His fishing basket and extra poles are scattered on the floor and a reminder of his past glory, a fish, is mounted over the fireplace.
