A Brief History of the American Antiquarian Society Clarence Saunders Brigham (1877-1963), was appointed the third librarian of AAS in 1908. He retired as president of AAS in 1959. This portrait, an oil on canvas, was painted by Irving Resnikoff (b. 1897) as 'Charles J.
