Portrait authors, a game from the graphic arts collection,
consists
of sixty-four cards. Each card has a portrait of an author with his
name
at the head of the card under the class in which he is ranked, e.g.,
historian, poet, journalist, and novelist.
Jared Sparks (1789-1866), a prominent nineteenth-century historian
and
editor, published more than sixty volumes of historical works over a
thirty-year period, including multi-volume biographical series, such
as
the 25-volume Library of American Biography (1834-1848).
