American Portrait Prints
The American Antiquarian Society contains a vast collection of American portrait prints. A reference collection of over 5,000 portraits of Americans has been gathered as the Society's American Portrait Prints (APP) Collection. Arranged alphabetically by name, this collection is maintained in the Graphic Arts Department and contains images removed from newspapers, periodicals, books, letterheads, and ephemera. A name list for this collection is available.
The Society actively collects American portrait prints dating from the late seventeenth century to the late nineteenth century. Many of these may be found in our general catalog by searching by the sitter's last name. Engraved portraits created before 1820 are also listed in the Catalogue of American Engravings.
An additional one thousand images of sitters from the city of Worcester can be found in the Worcester Portrait Prints Collection.
