Call to the Meeting

The two-hundredth and fourth Annual Meeting of the American Antiquarian Society will be held in Antiquarian Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Thursday afternoon, the twenty-seventh of October, at 4:30 o'clock

  • to hear the report of the Council,
  • to elect officers and Councilors,
  • to elect new members, and
  • to transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting.

Thursday, October 27

9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Library open for members and fellows
11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Orientation for new members
Any member attending an AAS annual meeting for the first time, whether newly elected or not, is encouraged to attend this informative session outlining the collections and activities of the Society

1:00 - 2:15 p.m. Luncheon for members and fellows

2:30 - 4:30 p.m. William Charles and His World
This symposium explores the work and times of the caricaturist and book publisher William Charles (1776-1820). It features AAS members Jack and Linda Lapides, who will discuss collecting Charles imprints; Laura Wasowicz, AAS children’s literature curator, who will speak on the AAS holdings of Charles’s work; and former AAS fellows Allison Stagg and Nancy Siegel who will explore Charles’s work as a political cartoonist.

7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The twelfth annual Robert C. Baron Lecture: “Revisiting America’s Unfinished Revolution” by Eric Foner, Antiquarian Hall

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and AAS member Eric Foner will discuss his definitive 1988 book, Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution, 1863-1877. Foner will reflect on writing this work and the book’s impact on scholarship and society in the years since its first appearance.
