Rewards of merit were given to children for good attendance and accomplishment in school and at Sunday school.  This example from Hallowell, Maine, includes several elaborate type borders and a cut of a grapevine.  This reward was printed by Glazier & Co. who also printed the Hallowell Gazette as well as school books, almanacs and hymnals, many of which can be found in the Society’s collection.
