Historic bottle of Madeira - Following a centennial celebration of the establishment of the Worcester County Court, according to Brigham’s predecessor, Christopher Columbus Baldwin, an unopened bottle of Madeira was deposited at the Society with directions to be reopened one hundred years later. Brigham observed this dictum and not the strictures of Prohibition, hosting a small, festive event in the Council Room on October 14, 1931. Sealed brown glass bottle filled with Madeira wine with label attesting to the observance of October 14, 1931, the replenishing of the bottle’s contents, and commending his successors to “open the bottle again in October 2031.” [view just the bottle here and the label here]
