The advertisement for Roper’s Gymnasium, located at 247 Market Street in Philadelphia, shows a well-conducted establishment of the early 1830s. Visitors have come to watch the fencing and the exercises being performed on the vaulting horse, balance bars, trapeze, and ropes.
