The principal fields of endeavor were agriculture, commerce, and manufacture, which are emblematically displayed on the cover of the Farmers and Mechanics Almanac for 1845. The cornucopia of plenty and sprigs of wheat represent Agriculture and the bounty of the land. Commerce and Manufactures are surrounded by wreaths of olive branches representing peace, a necessary condition for their success.
