Davy Crockett’s Almanack, of Wild Sports of the West, and Life in the Backwoods … 1835. Nashville: Snag & Sawyer, 1834. [catalog record]
Gift of Samuel L. Munson, 1925.
The Samuel L. Munson gift greatly expanded AAS’s holdings of topical almanacs. Among these were several “comic” almanacs, filled with jokes and stories. Davy Crockett’s Almanac was published from 1835 to 1841 and spawned many imitators. The then still-living Crockett almost certainly had nothing to do with this publication, other than to inspire it through the immense contemporary interest in his larger-than-life persona.
