Edward C. Gay. The Boy Smuggler. Farmer City, Illinois: Ed. C. Gay, 1876. [catalog record]
Purchase, Harry G. Stoddard Memorial Fund, 2007.
With the advent of the parlor press came amateur books. Published in Farmer City, Illinois, this book was printed by Thomas G. Harrison in Lafayette, Indiana. Harrison later published a history of amateur journalism, with reminiscences of his career as a printer and president of the National Amateur Press Association. Over the past two decades, developing AAS’s amateur book collection has become a high priority, as these homespun imprints serve to complement the Society’s unrivalled collection of amateur newspapers.
