Since nearly its inception in 1858, McLoughlin repeatedly published picture books featuring images of groups of children marching with the American flag.  Our America is a continuation of that type of patriotic picture book.  Published on the cusp of World War II, the volume is printed in a square format that is quite similar to the popular Little Golden Books series that would debut a year later in 1942.
