This game’s eye-catching chromolithographed cover reveals quite a bit about football in American culture during the Gilded Age.  Half of the players wear the “Y” of the Yale University Bulldogs, while the other half the orange and black horizontal jerseys of the Princeton University Tigers.  In 1891, the sport of college football was barely more than two decades old, and both Yale and Princeton were among the earliest teams.

Adopted by Robert and Beverly Bachelder in memory of E.E. Bachelder, Dartmouth College Class of 1909
